Thermal System Training
At the heart of nearly all industrial processes and campus utility systems are complex energy conversion systems. Thermal System Training was founded to provide training programs to develop the “Human Dimension” of these complex systems. Trained operators and maintenance personnel are key to keeping these systems operating, safely, reliably, and at peak efficiency. Thermal System Training offers a variety of educational programs and delivery methods to meet this critical need.

What is the MAWP of a boiler?
The MAWP (maximum allowable pressure) is the highest pressure at which a boiler or pressure vessel can be safely operated.
What is latent heat?
Latent heat is the BTU content of a substance which represents the heat absorbed or given up as it changes state between a solid, liquid, and a gas.
What is sensible heat?
Sensible heat is the BTU content of a substance absorbed or given up as it changes temperature.
What are the two most commonly used boiler types?
Firetube (gases of combustion are inside of the boiler tubes) and watertube (gases of combustion are on the outside of the tube) are the two most common types.
What is the most common cause of failure of steam and hot water boilers?
Tubes, flues, and other boiler components may fail from overheating as a result of a low water level in the boiler.
Client Testimonials
I have known Byron Nichols for over 25 years. Byron has conducted our annual ASOPE training for all of our plant operators, mechanics and Instrumentation techs. His knowledge and experience in thermal systems is exceptional. He is very organized and professional with his training. This is an extremely informative course. Excellent Program!!!
The training that is offered by Byron Nichols and Thermal System Training is by far the most informative and up to date training you can have when it comes to any steam plant operation. The knowledge gained from this training will prove to be most beneficial in all aspects of Boiler, Turbine and Auxiliary equipment operations.
I have recommended Byron’s boiler class to many. I take his class yearly and every time I learn something new. Byron is one of those instructors that you hang onto every word and understand it. At the end of my first class, I returned to my facility more efficient and a safer operation. Even if you know boilers you will learn from these classes.
